Kwayko Blandella

Songwriter/Recording Artist

Biography

When an indomitable spirit in human form takes leave of it’s skin to return to it’s essence the world mourns. But we know that everything and every one is part of a master plan that is not always clear to those of us still living. Music is the path by which righteousness communicates with the human soul. Sadly, many of the messengers of light like Bob and Garnett Silk passed too quickly and left the world the message and the music (in this case reggae) in darkness.

Kwayko Blandella, from Jamaica will bring the world towards the light. Hearing the music he calls "freedom music" and speaking to the soft spoken yet driven roots teacher has brought me to a deeper understanding of Jah’s plans to continue His conversation with the conscious masses through music.

Kwayko got his name while in Africa on tour with Jimmy Cliff. The name translated means "Wednesday’s Child". His music he says "is about equal rights and social justice" and his role as he sees it is to be a social observer. A social observer is someone who studies in order to educate others of their rights so that they can fight for them when the time comes.

This Wednesday’s child has taken on the task of many men. His goal is to rescue reggae from the abyss of moral decadence it has fallen into. He has shared the stage on Singers night at Reggae Sumfest (Montego-Bay Jamaica) with artists such as Dennis Brown, Luciano, Garnett Silk, Buju Banton, and many more.

When asked why reggae needs him, he explains that it’s the other way around. "I need reggae more than it needs me. At the root of reggae music is the heartbeat pulse. This sound is what regulates everything in the world including the human body. Reggae doesn’t just need me, it needs a million more like me to liberate themselves, this music, and others".

With no need nor desire for outside validation, Kwayko's creedo is:

"I feel I shall be buried for a time, hidden away in obscurity; then suddenly I shall rise, do my work and be gone..."

With all the performances and positive attention from fans he’s getting, Kwayko Blandella could very well go past a million and transfix the world. Now that you know, "Together we can make it happen".
